In the HQ of the most promising AI voice company |Otter.ai|Sam Liang|Race Capital
Hello everyone,
Tomorrow, I have a midterm for my Finance class at Berkeley Haas. After evaluating the opportunity cost of my Wednesday, I realized that the 55-mile one-way trip to Mountain View was a good idea, and it actually was.
Yes, I visited Otter Voice Notes HQ in Mountain View for their event with Race Capital. The speakers were amazing: Sam Liang, CEO of Otter.ai; Edith Yeung, General Partner at Race Capital; and Paul Ricci, who retired as Chairman and CEO of Nuance.
Some of my notes about Otter Voice Notes: As of now, Otter boasts more than 30 million users and has supported over a billion meetings. It has the largest voice-encrypted dataset on the market, which is continually learning as an AI model.
The current business model is similar to SaaS models. It’s a huge market with great technology and incredible potential. Much has been said about voice AI privacy. There are significant security concerns in the market, where many enterprises are currently struggling. Europe is facing regulations for data privacy, but Otter employs end-point encryption.
Marketing is another key aspect. Otter will bethe next Uber, but for hosting, facilitating, and enhancing the meeting experience. The key point is that Otter isn’t trying to limit minutes; they want users to understand the product and its potential role in their lives. They will grab the land of this market and I am 100% sure in it.
At Berkeley Haas, I’m enrolled in an Equitable Product Design class. I spoke to one of the Otter employees about what is truly needed for Otter from a design perspective. Since, I am a customer of Otter and use it daily for my lecture notes and work.
It was a pleasure meeting Bay Area innovators, AI enthusiasts, and influential figures in the industry. I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to attend this event and network with professionals in the AI sector.
